The Bird Market

Photos from the small, enclosed maze of stalls and sheltered streets of the Bird (pet) Market where you can buy anything from birds in bamboo cages, cats and riddiculously cute puppies, rabbits and rodents to large jewel coloured crickets, turtles, fish, snakes and lizards. It was close but not as smelly as you'd imagine but the noise from the thousands of crickets in there was just deafening! By the way if you don't like seeing cute furry animals in cages I won't advise going here when visiting Shanghai. I've chosen not to put the photos I took for these animals so it's safe to view this post for all you animal lovers.

Lady selling giant crickets. When we went there she was feeding them this paste which she was dishing out into small procelin bowls (the sort you'd get with a doll's tea set) and putting them in the jars with the insects.
